Over the years, many customers have asked me for blue, auto-darkening lenses. I am no fan of autos. I was a welder for 20+ years, too, but I realize I'm an old man, and times are changing.
Auto Lenses & New Era
There are instances where an auto is quite handy, and many kids new to the welding field wouldn't know how to weld with a passive lens if their life depended on it. Still, I wouldn't say I like auto, but I offer a few shades of these lenses to suit my client's unique requirements.
The Quality
Automatic lenses will never beat the safety or longevity of a traditional glass passive lens, and if it weren't for the popularity of automatics, I would never consider offering them. But I offer a fine quality automatic lens for a fair and comparable price. No more, No less.
If you purchase an automatic lens from me, you do so, understanding that I do not promote automatics, i do not like them and I do not stand by them. I include the manufacturers warranty card and it is the manufacturers responsibility to honor their warranty. I hate to be a jerk but I will not repair, replace or warranty a piece of plastic made in China. It is YOUR responsibility to hold the manufacturer to account for their product. Please do not buy one if you cannot accept this liability.
The Manufacturing
At my store, I do not make automatic lenses. They are manufactured abroad, in China, just like every other automatic welding lens from Lincoln to Optrel. All the autos used today are made in China because the raw material resources and labor are so much cheaper, allowing for bigger profits for the brand, the wholesaler, distributor, and small chain stores.
Although it's said that the greater the cost and better the technology and product quality, this is not always 100% true in every case. I have fine a line of relatively fine quality automatic lenses that transmit in the blue region with good protection for a price virtually any welder can fit into their budget.
Please note that all warranties or exchanges must be through the manufacturer. Returns should be sent to the manufacturer per the manufacturer's instructions.
I offer a fine line of good lenses. Here, you can find my DIN shade Welding glass lenses. These lenses are suitable for all electric arc welding processes and are available in Shade DIN #8 to Shade DIN #12. I do also carry some DIN #13 in select lenses.
I carry the following Brands: Aulektro and Svar. I have Sputtered (Gold overlay). Feel Free to read further to find what best suits you. If you have any doubts, please contact me.
The Brands
I offer two exceptional brands produced in Germany using the float glass process and are CE certified. These are unhardened Glasses. CE 166 Compliant.
The Lens Kit
Each Lens Kit costs $18.20 + $3.80 shipping, and you get 1 Gold glass lens.
There are pink/magenta acrylic filters that block green and visible yellow light also available at my store. At the same time, the Blue filter blocks upper yellow and orange light and offers different advantages. Both can be found as add-on's to your gold lens.
The Blue adds about 1 full shade, and the magenta adds 1/2 shade.
My prices are highly competitive as this is the same material others sell for $50-$80 per piece!!!! I offer these at $20.00 for a set of 2 add-on filters (or $10.00 each) + $3.00 Shipping.
No Warranty
No warranty is expressed or implied for the single glass welding lenses. These are shipped USPS first class and are not insured. These lenses are not compliant with ANSI Z87.1 Standards and conform to CE 166 European Safety Standard. They do not meet ANSI impact requirements. ANSI-approved clear lenses must be used in conjunction with these lenses in front and behind. The user assumes all responsibility and waives any liability to the seller.
These are handmade, 2-pane welding lenses. You only get 1 lens. It is constructed of 2 separate panes of Glass, each serving separate functions, and laminated into a single lens with the gold sputter protected by the primary pane so that it does dissipate heat without getting scratched or worn away.
High-Contrast
The high-contrast lenses have a bigger field of view and allow more contrasting color ranges.
Low Contrast Lenses
The low contrast lenses limit color regions but refine details immediately in the arc cone and throat of the joint.
Opticool Welding Lenses work on a different principle than other 2pc lenses. Opticool lenses allow a much broader spectrum of multiple frequencies of visible light (color ranges) to pass through the lens. Then individual bandwidths are selectively either blocked out or "tuned down," such as green or yellow light, while accentuating bandwidths such as cyan and red.
This gives more contrast (2 contrasting colors existing in the same space), and because of the non-reflective nature of my Glass, there are no ghost images. It won't alter colors when you're in a tricky position, and because of the broader spectrum of bandwidths available to your eyes, no intense high-frequency eye strain exists.

For 33 years, the American Optics Weld Cool or AOWC (Cool Blue Welding Lens as it was affectionately called) was the "perfect welding lens standard." Many examples are being sold on places like eBay for upwards of $700 or more if you could find one in good shape in a shade of 10H.
It was only produced in shades 10 and shade 12. The shade 10 was a more aqua color and was often considered quite bright, compared to a standard #9 and a true 10. The #12 was about what you'd expect of a #12 but was a more genuine, deep blue.
Stellar Reputation
Well, no more does the AOWC have to be reserved as the pinnacle of welding optics. In my opinion, I have created a lens that has a stellar reputation and rivals the AOWC as the "best made." As far as many are concerned, it will forever remain the best ever made and was darned expensive then.
The Trifecta Lens
Without further delay, I will give you- The Trifecta lens. A lens produced from 3 panes of tempered Glass in perfect harmony brings a gorgeous, smooth, relaxing color palette to the eyes, deep contrast for pinpoint detail, and unrivaled HD polarized clarity. Each lens is painstakingly handmade and comes in either an Aqua or True Blue.
Expensive & Amazing
The best lenses are not cheap lenses, but it is worth every penny you spend on them. I am so confident you will be extremely happy with this lens that I'm offering a 3-day money-back guarantee. I will include a return form with every order. If you don't think it's worth every penny, you paid for it, and I'll buy it back. Please complete the return form; send it back to me with a shipping label receipt as soon as I receive it in pristine condition.
The Three Lenses
The primary lens consists of a special glass that specifically targets and removes visible light in a narrow spectrum region consisting of yellow light where most sodium and gaseous burn-off occurs and is polarized.
The main lens is a high-quality, German-made, gold-sputtered welding lens with a minor alteration in the standard peak output frequency that will dissipate heat. Its flatness tolerances are superior to most cheap green, off-the-shelf lenses.
The final lens is an IR absorbing and frequency enhancing lens that reduces red and orange while shifting peak transmission into a more blue range.
Total Cost
The Full Cost of this lens will be $350.00 out the door, but this time, I will include some perks and will include a free lens case (made by my Wife), 3 free small cleaning cloths, 3 free Opticool stickers, 1 free Opticool twist type ballpoint pen, and free priority shipping & insurance. This is not a tempered glass lens, though. It is not hardened. So it does need to be treated with utmost care.
Laminated Glass is strong and won't splinter into pieces, but a full-on smack or drop on either face can fracture it. Drops on an edge or corner can chip it. Poly or CR39 clears front and back are necessary. It won't tolerate negligence.
No matter what is in your price range or where you are in your career; I can help you see better to be better. Good optical clarity is what you want to do your best work and I can help provide it to you. Having been a welder myself with 20+ years in the trade I can help direct you to something that will suit your needs. But I'm also happy to share what I know, What I've learned and to continue to learn and provide new, updated and better products to keep your eyes in peak shape and your focus sharp and clear.
